Sparkling City Light Opera (SCLO) is a non-profit corporation that provides high quality, professional performances to preserve and promote the history and rich tradition of light opera and musical theater. SCLO’s seasonal productions will make this exciting art form accessible to new audiences of all ages through a variety of educational outreach programs.
SCLO’s seasonal productions will include:
• Opera in the Park will be one of two large scale, main stage productions held annually. The event will be held in at the Cole Park Amphitheater, Corpus Christi, TX. Opera in the Park will feature professional artists performing a significant work in the light opera genre. The performance will be open to all members of the community. This will be a free event, furthering SCLO’s goal of serving all audiences especially those who would typically not have the opportunity to experience live classical music.
• An Emerging Artist Concert Series which will feature both professional and gifted young artists in a multitude of recital performances furthering educational advancement.
• An Emerging Artist Competition will be held annually to recognize exceptional vocal talent in South Texas. The recipients will be featured in the Emerging Artist Concert Series as well as receive funds to assist with the advancement of their artistic careers.
• The Family Light Opera Series will feature Light Opera in the Classroom (LOC). LOC provides a preview of the performance as well as an opportunity for students to meet and collaborate with a featured artist from the company. Students will immerse themselves in the history of opera as they become characters and participate in a mini classroom performance. Students and families will be invited to attend the Family Light Opera Production.
• SCLO will collaborate with other arts organizations to promote the performing arts and will participate in community festivals and programs.
